Hey — it’s Deepak

Observing user data is a great way to optimize your apps/websites.

Using session recordings data to make a difference.

Spotting an easy-to-miss mobile issue of Plutio.

Let’s understand this with a simple real world example using Hotjar’s session recording case study.

Problem:
Weaknesses in mobile users’ core metrics, but don’t know the cause.

How they used session recordings:
They started reading session recordings from mobile users to make sure the experience was consistent with the desktop one.

What they found:
One of the session replays showed a user trying to close a mobile menu, but accidentally tapping the main logo, which resulted in an unintended page refresh.

The white oval in the image above is accidental user tap.

The home page link was too close to some navigation menu items, and mobile users were clicking on the former by mistake and were redirected to home page.

The result:
This was an easy-to-fix but problematic error for Plutio, Because users were being returned to the homepage when they didn’t want to.

A simple UI change on the mobile version solved that problem and improved UX and conversion rate on the page instantly.
